Staff Associate Position
The Computer Science Department at Columbia University is seeking
applicants to fill a position as Staff Associate with the Facilities
Hardware Group. The Hardware Group provides engineering support to the
Department and coordinates the acquisition, installation, use, and
maintenance of equipment used in research activities.
Responsibilities of this position will be broad, but will center on
engineering support, troubleshooting and repairing a variety of computer
and communication hardware, as well as designing and assembling
electronic devices. This person will also have complete responsibility
for the maintenance of a few larger systems such as workstations and
mini-computers.
High aptitude in analog and digital troubleshooting techniques is
required, as well as a strong interest in becoming fluent in network
hardware concerns in a diversified computing environment. Specific
expertise is a plus, but is not required; there will be time to train on
unfamiliar equipment.
The Department facilities currently include a DEC-2060, IBM 4381,
AT&T 3B20, seven VAX 11/750's, Symbolics LISP machines, and numerous
workstations manufactured by Sun and Hewlett Packard. Our research
community consists of 110 faculty, Phd students and staff. The
Morningside Heights Campus of Columbia University is located in northern
Manhattan, removed from, yet convenient to the city's many attractions.
Benefits include tuition-exemption and access to university facilities.
Columbia University is an equal-opportunity employer. We are
interested in receiving applications from qualified women and
minorities.
