info-vlsi@ucbvax.UUCP (12/12/85)

                  Call for Participation:
       ACM/IEEE Workshop: Beyond Behavioral Synthesis
    Santa Barbara, California, April 30 - May 2, 1986
Cosponsored by IEEE DATC and ACM SIGDA

This workshop will focus on synthesis from high level
hardware descriptions. Emphasis will be placed on ongoing
research rather than completed work. We encourage proposed
presentations in the areas of:

o architectural issues in hardware synthesis
o applications of software synthesis to hardware synthesis
o high level specification translation
o design style selection
o design representation translation (eg. from behavior level
to mask)
o correctness and verification
o hardware/software tradeoffs
o the relationship between high-level architectural deci-
sions and floorplanning

To encourage free exchange of ideas, no proceedings will be
published nor will recording be permitted. Handouts may be
distributed at the discretion of the speaker. Sessions will
be informal, with adequate time for each presentation to
catalyze more general discussion.

To participate in the workshop, please submit a short sum-
mary of your interests and activities in the synthesis field
or related area to the workshop chair, Alice Parker, before
January 31, 1986. Your summary should include: name,
affiliation, address, telephone number, brief biography and
(optionally) what you would like to present/discuss at the
workshop.

Participants will receive registration forms and housing
information with their invitations. Invitations will be sent
out on February 21, 1986. Attendance will be limited to 60
people. For further information contact one of the follow-

Hi,

Will this be a workshop in the sense that only those presenting papers
may attend or may one who has an interest in the subject attend just to
listen and learn? If the latter, please send registration information
or tell me how to obtain it. Thanks.
