I'd like the following posted to the usenet newsgroup mod.vlsi ...
At UCSD we are in the process of setting up a laboratory for
VLSI design for research and instruction, and would like
advise/informatation on choices for workstations/software.
We are planning on buying several workstations for interac-
tive layout of custom VLSI. The choices are
o Mentor (Apollo based)
o Daisy 'ChipMaster'
and possibly Calma. The software package we intend to use is
'ecad', and we intend to hook the workstations into our
local ethernet (using TCP/IP), to use a VAX for design
verification. We also have SUNs for running public domain
VLSI layout software.
Any information on performance, ease of use, interfacing,
would be appreciated. If there is enough interest I will
summarize to the net.
