I have heard that several people using the MCNC VIVID distribution are porting it to different workstations by writing Z device drivers for them (Z is a device independent graphics interface specifically tailored to bitmap style operations). I have heard also that the later Berkeley tools are using Project Athena's X-Window interface for their graphics interface. Is somebody out there writing a Z device driver in terms of the X C-library interface? (I doubt whether it is sensible to do the reverse). This would be a quick way to get VIVID onto a large number of UNIX workstations. Tony Begg (e-mail: tony%ee.brunel.ac.uk@ucl-cs.arpa)
