Talk on SDI by Dr. Simon Peter Worden ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Thu, 27 Feb 86 22:53:05 EST From: Herb Lin <LIN@MC.LCS.MIT.EDU> Subject: Pulsed neutron source? From: rimey at dali.berkeley.edu (Ken Rimey) In the draft paper posted by Herb Lin, the use of pulses of neutrons was suggested for the sensing of fissionable material. Can anyone explain how a pulsed neutron source might be made? An example of a pulsed neutron source is a tube filled with deuterium and tritium. When a pulse of neutrons is desired, a strong spark is ignited in the tube, thereby inducing a small amount of fusion. D + T --> He + n is the reaction, and the n that result are the neutrons in the pulse. ------------------------------ Date: 02/27/86 21:04:36 From: mit-sif at EDDIE.MIT.EDU Re: Talk on SDI by Dr. Simon Peter Worden Monday SDI: SUCCESS IS ALMOST HERE A Talk by MAJOR SIMON PETER WORDEN SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE DIRECTOR, STRATEGIC DEFENSE INITIATIVE ORGANIZATION MONDAY, MARCH 3 8 PM ROOM 54-100 Sponsored by MIT Students for Individual Freedom and MIT Students for National Defense [Note from Moderator: This man is worth going to hear.
