Today I had occasion to rewire an old rotary Western Electric phone (built in October 1962). It had been used on a PBX and two out of the four wires that go to the bell coil were hooked up to what is normally "line 2", i.e. yellow and black. Hence the bell did not work. After much trial and error, I finally found another (much younger) rotary phone and was relieved to find that the everything inside was exactly the same, right down to the color coding of the wires. Thus I was able to get the bell working again by hooking the two wires to "A" and "F" on the network block. These phones were obviously built to operate in many configurations, (party-line, PBX, and so on). What I would like to know is where I could get any documentation,- wiring diagrams,- that describes all of this (both 500 and 2500 sets). This may have been asked before, apologies if I missed it.
