[mod.computers.sequent] test and question

info-sequent-request@im4u.UUCP (John Quarterman) (11/07/85)

Someone asks in a letter to info-sequent-request:

There has been some confusion around here about how to post to the
news group mod.sequent (i.e. since this is a moderated group who is
	the moderator?).

The situation is probably confusing enough to be worth answering to all.

There is no mod.sequent nor fa.info-sequent (unless someone is gatewaying
such newsgroups locally that I and the rest of the world don't know about).

There is a moderated newsgroup called mod.computers.sequent, which
should be seen most everywhere. I am the moderator. To post to it,
send *mail* to ut-sally!im4u!info-sequent if you're on UUCP or
to info-sequent@im4u.UTEXAS.EDU if you're on the ARPA Internet.

Now, the confusing part is that the mailing list info-sequent is *not*
itself moderated, i.e., anything you send to it goes to everybody else
on the mailing list. However, for technical and political reasons
regarding USENET, the newsgroup mod.computers.sequent *is* moderated.
I pick up messages out of the mailing list and post them manually
to the newsgroup as the moderator. Except in truly exceptional cases,
I will post anything which reaches info-sequent in mod.computers.sequent.
The political requirement is that there is someone to catch such cases
if they ever occur.

Requests to get on or off the mailing list, comments about the newsgroup
or the mailing list, or other administrativia, should go to
