From: Vic Abell <abe@purdue-asc.ARPA> The Purdue University Computing Center has placed an order with Sequent for a Balance 8000, to be upgraded to a Balance 21000 in late June, 1986. The Balance 8000 will have 8 CPUs, 16mb of memory, 3 Eagles on MULTIBUS controllers, 112 ports and a 1/2" GCR tape. The Balance 21000 (formerly known as the Balance 16000 with the double sided backplane) will have 12 CPUs, 24mb of memory, 4 Eagles on B21000 bus controllers and 144 ports. After the upgrade, parts from the intial B8000 will be retained to form a maintenance machine with 2 CPUs, 8mb of memory, 1 Eagle and 16 ports. Delivery is expected early in February.
