[mod.computers.sequent] Greetings; thank you; and testing

rsk@j.cc.purdue.edu (Rich Kulawiec) (08/27/86)

Welcome (back) to mod.computers.sequent, and the info-sequent mailing
list. I'd like to express much gratitude to John Quarterman, the
previous moderator, both for his fine work running the group, and for
his patience in explaining the fine points of setting up a moderated
group to me.

Finally, I'd like to apologize for the delay in the changeover; it's
entirely due to me and to a number of changes local to Purdue which
have made our lives a Living Hell (apologies to David Letterman). The
campus-wide switchover to domains at the beginning of the fall term has
started some interesting and novel fires...including a pair of spurious
newgrp messages sent to all of Usenet by yours truly. As a result,
this article also constitutes a test of whether or not this newsgroup
is still flowing outbound from Purdue. You are likely to see some
very odd things in the headers of this message; just nod sagely and
hope that it will all be better soon.

I have one pending message for the group; I suspect that others would
be here if our mailer was more cooperative. In theory,
"info-sequent-request@j.cc.purdue.edu" should wind up in my lap; so
should "pur-ee!pucc-j!info-sequent-request", but this seems somewhat
dubious at the moment. Given that we have something like 17,000 Unix
users on campus, none of whom are happy about this, these problems
should be fixed Real Soon Now. Just nod some more. :-)
