<...> Someone (hou4b!ribl) inquired if the musician appearing on "Jesus Christ Superstar" as Steven Vaughn is the same person as Stevie Ray Vaughan. I can't be sure, but I would tend to doubt it. First of all, Stevie Ray's last name is spelled "Vaughan" and not "Vaughn". Secondly, I believe that Vaughan's first name is actually "Stevie Ray" and not "Steven". From what I hear, such names are not uncommon in Texas, where Vaughan is from. Thirdly, Vaughan is basically a blues guitarist. I'm not very familiar with "Jesus Christ Superstar", but from what I've heard of it, it doesn't seem like Stevie Ray's style of play would mesh very well. However, I'm sure that Vaughan is much more versatile than it would first seem--his last album contained a jazz-ish piece that was unlike anything I had heard him play previously. One last point--I believe Stevie Ray's first album credit was on David Bowie's "Let's Dance" album. Yes, that's right, David Bowie. Kind of incongruous, I'll admit. Have you ever seen the end of the video for "Let's Dance", wherein Bowie is shown standing in a desert, ripping out the guitar lead at the the end of the song? Well, Bowie didn't really play it. Vaughan did. Previous to that, I think Vaughan had only played live, in barrooms and nightclubs in the Austin, Texas area, where he is in his element... -- Mark Vita Dartmouth College USENET: {decvax, cornell, linus, astrovax}!dartvax!markv ARPA: markv%dartmouth@csnet-relay CSNET: markv@dartmouth

The spelling of Steven Vaughan and Stevie Ray Vaughan's last name is exactly the same. But I still don't know if they are one and the same. How old is Stevie Ray Vaughan? Carole Brooks ihuxl!brooks
