[mod.computers.workstations] Viewpoint is similar to, but different from, Star

One recent message implied that Xerox Viewpoint is the 1981 Star
product simply renamed. Not true. As delivered, Viewpoint provides
generally the same functionality, but it is noticeably faster, a good
deal of the interface has been changed (e.g. overlapping windows in
arbitrary positions are allowed now), and quite importantly, it has
been unbundled. Star was a monolithic program, but Viewpoint is a
bunch of modules. Using the XDE system, one can write one's own
modules and load them into Viewpoint. This is clearly important to
allow 3rd-party developers to add to Viewpoint.
