Greetings, Ive read a number of articles about the TI 34010 and Intel 82786 graphics processors being the next big rage in workstations and I was wondering just what kind of performance one can expect from these chips. If anyone has had a chance to play with either of these could you comment on their speed relative to say a uVAX II/GPX (the only workstation Ive used enough to use as a reference)? Im particularly interested in how fast it would be at supporting X (I gather from Digitals literature that X runs slower than their primary graphics interface). While I'm questioning the 'commercial technology of the next six months' I noticed an article in EDN about 5 1/4" hard disk that can store 760M, has an average access time of 18 ms and can transfer data at 15mb/sec, and a price (1000 unit qty) that is in the lower half of the four digit range. It should be available in the first quarter of '87. This seems rather remarkable!!! The question this brings up is what level of density is considered 'safe' or 'proven' in the high end market? -Steve ~~~~~~~~~~ Halpin@Umass.BITNET Halpin%Umass.BITNET@WiscVM.Wisc.EDU
