i m seeking help in usin `tip' on the sun to access a remote system via dialup. in particular i m interested in accessing a vax/vms system. getting into a little bit of nitty gritty details, in /etc/remote one has to define remote sights and one of the parameters that are to be set is the `dv' parameter for device. i have not been able to find any clue in the manuals to what it is supposed to look like. the `man' page for `remote' has an example `:dv=/dev/cua1,/dev/cua2:' or something like that but no clue to what /dev/cua? should contain. any help from experienced and knowledgable folks will be gratefully appreciated.thanks Haim Levkowitz Levkowitz@cis.upenn.edu

I don't know about the remote file but cu (and tip as well I believe) use the uucp dialer and system files. That is, the system must be known to uucp (L.sys or System, depending on the version) and the line you are to dial out on must also be known to uucp (L.devices or Devices.....). -- John Cornelius (...!sdcsvax!piaget!jc)
