The Pyramid User's Group is happy to announce that it will produce and distribute a library of public domain software for use on Pyramid computers. We will be using the facilities of Rutgers University for this project. The machine that will handle the distribution is known as TOPAZ.RUTGERS.EDU on the Internet, and topaz via uucp. The coordinator for disbursement will be Jonathan D. Trudel. His address on the Internet is TRUDEL@TOPAZ.RUTGERS.EDU. His uucp address is topaz!trudel. Topaz may be reached via pyrnj, pyramid, seismo, harvard, and ihnp4. There will be at least two separate distributions. These are for sites with binary only Unix licenses, and for sites with System V and 4.2 BSD source licenses. We would prefer to limit distributions to this, but we are willing to consider distributing Pyramid ports of software having other licensing restrictions. If you have such software, please contact us. Sites wishing to participate should pay a $50 fee to subscribe to the library. This will help pay for a person to screen submissions and to coordinate the library. A membership form will soon be posted to this group. Actual distribution will take place as follows: -For the Internet, an anonymous ftp login will be created. However, for reasons of system security, sources will not be available. Source code may be acquired through the mail as described below, provided that the requesting site has proper source licensing. -Files will be made available via uucp. The type of files available is dependent on individual site licensing. -Rutgers will also send out tapes of the library. This will also depend upon site licensing. We will be charging a fee for the tapes, which is calculated to cover our costs. The fee will be fixed after we know how many reels will be needed. Tapes are available in tar format, 9 track reel, at either 1600 or 6250 BPI. When ordering, please specify which type you prefer. A listing of all software we currently have available will be announced in the near future. After that time, additions to the list will be announced on a monthly basis. Submissions to the public domain library are welcome and strongly encouraged. Submission forms should follow this announcement. Please contact Mr. Trudel before submitting software you currently have available so we can avoid initial duplication. We encourage you to tell us about any interesting software you know of at other sites. If you feel that it would enhance our library, feel free to tell us about it. Send us a message describing the software, where you have seen it, and who to contact. We can be reached at pd-request@TOPAZ.RUTGERS.EDU for the Internet, or topaz!pd-request for uucp sites. -- Jonathan D.
