Following is a comment on the NS 8000 Laser CP received from someone at Xerox. I'm posting it since it describes one of the few Interpress printers publicly available (that I know of at least). "The NS 8000 Laser CP is similar to the existing 8044 printer in the XNS environment, with the `Raven' engine (common to the 2700 family of printers) replaced by the new 4045 IOT. It shares only the engine (laser and xerography) with the 4045, but has completely different electronics and software. It is indeed an Ethernet/XNS/Interpress printer, but it goes from Interpress to bits, not to 4045 codes. The processor is a full-blown D-machine (I'm not sure whether it is the old 801X `Dandelion' or the new 6085, both of which are fast microprogramed bit-slice machines). So the price will be a good bit higher than the 4045 (a 6085 by itself costs $5000). " ---- While I'm at it, I might as well mention some points about two other laser printers I've noticed (from PC Week, Nov 5th issue): Dataproducts LZR-1230: 3,495, Toshiba engine; 12PPM; 300x300dpi; 250 sheet input (with single sheet capability); 16 character alpha status display with 16 button keyboard to select fonts & margins; emulation for Diablo 630, Epson FX80, LaserJet Plus standard, credit card sized "smart cards can provide optional emulators as well as extra fonts, forms or logos"; letter, legal, A4 paper sizes; limited shipping in January with full shipping in April. Options: $895 dual-bin aux. cassette (500 pages?), $895 envelope feeder (100 envelopes), $295 offset jogger. Data Products: 6200 Canoga Ave., P.O. Box 745 Woodland Hills, CA 91364-0745, 818-887-8000. NCR 6416 Laser Printer: 3,222; Canon CX engine (8PPM, 300dpi); 256KB to "be expanded by first quarter of next year with a full megabyte"; courier, pica, elite, "standard print font"; portrait and landscape printing; (The following must be a misprint) "both an RS-232C and serial interfaces"; Diablo 630 emulation, downloadable "character sets".
