[mod.computers.laser-printers] Problem with HP LaserJet and XyWrite

laser-lovers@ucbvax.UUCP (12/05/85)

I am looking for some assistance/advice with respect to a HP LaserJet
printer that we are currently using with XyWrite II. We are running
the XyWrite on an IBM PC.

The trouble we have come in trying to get the printer to print out
any text with underlines. We are preparing a document in 12 pitch,
and are using a Prestige Elite print font cartridge. What happens
is that whenever the printer encounters text with underlines it kicks
out of 12 pitch and goes to 10 pitch - the font that is internal on the
HP. It does not then kick back to 12 pitch when the underlined portion
of the text is done, but instead stays in 10 pitch for the rest of the
document.

Also (and related) when we prepare charts or tables, the printer for
some reason does not recognize all the tab characters used, so that
the printed chart is all out of whack. For instance:

A table that may include columns and look like this:

	| xxxx	| |
	| xxxx	| xxxxxxxxxxx |
	|	| |

Comes out of the printer looking like this:

	| xxxx	|	|
	| xxxx	| xxxxxxxxxxx	|
	||	|

We have called XyWrite and have sent them a sample file on disk, but
so far have not gotten very far in solving this problem. This
equipment is new for everyone in our office so we would sure appreciate
any advice on how to fix.
