[mod.computers.laser-printers] stray marks from Apple Laser-writer

riddle@EMORY.CSNET-RELAY.CSNET (Larry Riddle) (11/26/85)

When using ptroff to print on our Apple Laser-writer, two small
dashes are printed in the lower right corner of each page. These
do *not* occur when UNIX lpr output is directed to the Laser-writer.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there a cure?

Look thru the troff macro package you are using (in /usr/lib/tmac/tmac.*)
You will find a "cm" macro defined which generates cut marks for a versatec
or varian. I had to go and delete them out of our man macros. They
seem to be built in that way at Berkeley.

If you are using the -me macro package, then these "cut marks" are produced
by the @m macro. The most expedient thing to do to make them go away is to
make all the commands in this macro definition into comments (by putting .\ at
the front of each line between the .de and the .. lines).

The file to change is /usr/lib/tmac/tmac.e .

Alternately, simply add a
	.rm @m
line to the end of /usr/lib/tmac/tmac.e (or to the start of your own files,
if you're not in a position to change /usr/lib/tmac/tmac.e
