When using our Talaris 800, there is a 0.4" margin that is imposed on the top of the page on all output, making it impossible to print on this part of the paper. When in QUIC command mode, regular text and line graphics cannot use this space and if you want to print something at 1.0" down the page, it really prints at 1.4" down. However, when drawing arcs and when in vector mode, this offset does not occur, an arc or vector will print at 1.0" down if the command line dictates this. Anyone with a similar problem, or any solutions? Thanks in advance. Tony de Paolo Naval Ocean System Center depaolo@nosc.arpa ...!sdcsvax!noscvax!depaolo (619)225-2772

The problem is in the way a switch is set located on the cannon adapeter board in the Talaris controller box. SWS6 (Software Switch 6) can be set to change the paper's refererence point (Registration). Bits 1-4 control movement in the horizontal direction and bits 5-8 control movement in the vertical direction. There is, however, a print engine limitation which will not permit printing in about a 1/8 inch region on the left side of the page (in portrait mode). By setting the registration properly, all QUIC commands will in fact be accurate. For further information read the Quality Micro Systems LG800 operators manual which gives instructions regarding the registration adjustment. If you have problems in performing the adjustment, Group Three Electronics will be happy to send a trained service engineer to perform the adjustment for you at the standard fee. Call (408) 747-1600 for information regarding service.
