Preliminary experimenting has uncovered one annoyance with downloadable fonts on the LaserJet Plus: there is no general way to specify vertical spacing. The "height" parameter in the font descriptor apparently exists solely for the old-style font selection by attribute; it has no effect on actual vertical spacing. And the vertical-line-spacing control sequences think in 48ths of an inch, which is (a) bizarre, and (b) unsuited to exact specification of vertical spacing on a 300/inch printer. Looks like one would have to use cursor control to position lines properly with a font using an unusual line spacing. What an annoyance. (HP, are you listening?) Sigh, my mistake, it is possible to set unusual line spacings to high resolution on the LJ and LJ+ -- the documentation just doesn't make it particularly obvious. Henry Spencer @ U of Toronto Zoology {allegra,ihnp4,linus,decvax}!utzoo!henry
