[mod.computers.laser-printers] can a large image be printed on multiple pages?

jeff@KESTREL.ARPA.UUCP (05/14/86)

Maybe this question is best asked ---------------------------------
by an example. I have a dvi file | | |
created with: | xxxxxxxxxxxx|xxxxxxxxxxxx |
				     | xxxxxxxxxxxx|xxxxxxxxxxxx |
\textwidth 15in | xxxxxxxxxxxx|xxxxxxxxxxxx |
\textheight 20in | xxx This is |the text. xx |
				     | xxxxxxxxxxxx|xxxxxxxxxxxx |
is there anything that would allow | xxxxxxxxxxxx|xxxxxxxxxxxx |
this file to be printed on multiple ---------------------------------
pages? ---------------------------------
				     | xxxxxxxxxxxx|xxxxxxxxxxxx |
I have an Imagen 8/300, can this be | xxxxxxxxxxxx|xxxxxxxxxxxx |
be done in impress? | xxxxxxxxxxxx|xxxxxxxxxxxx |
    				     | xxxxxxxxxxxx|xxxxxxxxxxxx |
    				     | xxxxxxxxxxxx|xxxxxxxxxxxx |
               These are the pages ->|   xxxxxxxxxxxx|xxxxxxxxxxxx   |
    				     | | |
    				     ---------------------------------

Thanks, Jeff jeff@kestrel.arpa

The biggest problem in printing a large page in pieces is that the
Canon engine is not able to print all the way to the edges of the
paper, so you're stuck with a messy cut-and-paste problem. Even if
it could, you'd still end up with characters cut through the middle,
which would look pretty bad. All in all, you might be better off
printing "blown down", and then have a copy shop enlarge the result.
