[net.sf-lovers] Try this if you want a good Samuel Delany story

I found "Dhalgren" pretty impenetrable, but thought I had
at least vaguely understood what was going on. "Babel-17"
I though was fairly pointless.
However, Delany also wrote "Time Considered as a Helix of
Semi-Precious Stones", which won a Hugo (or something) a few
years ago for Best Short Story (could be Novella). This is a
terrific story which has a plot, well-defined characters, a
beginning and an end, and it is totally accessible. Check it
out. As far as I know the universe the story was set in was
never used in any other of his works, which is a pity.
Delany also wrote "The Fall of the Towers", which has at
least one interesting idea in it, though it is never really
developed.

Now if you want *really* obscure writing, try Cordwainer
Smith. If want want it totally wacked-out as well, try
Illuminatus!
