A variety of software tools are now available from the VorTeX project for printing DVI files on Xerox printers. We operate under UNIX and use xnsprint to communicate with the Xerox 8044 Raven printers. The software has more general applicability than just this environment. The following programs are available in source form: 1. A dvi to interpress filter. 2. A shell script that interfaces with lpr as required by /etc/printcap. This uses xnsprint. 3. A program textoxfont that converts pxl fonts to xerox fonts. 4. A program called merge that combines several xerox fonts into one. 5. A program xfont that reads a xerox font and prints out a character of choice from a font of choice. 6. Various other minor support programs. These programs, together with PXLtool (also available from us) and standard software on the UNIX TeX distribution tape such as Metafont, chtopx and pxtoch allow full use of the Xerox printers. You can make your own Xerox fonts or edit their fonts if you wish. We do not distribute fonts for these printers.
