		A talk on METAFONT

	     	by Neenie Billawala
 	    	at 7:00 pm
 	    	on Wednedsay, 20 August 86
 	    	at Stanford University
in room 252 Margaret Jacks Hall(CS Building)

Metafont is a computer language which was developed by
Donald Knuth at Stanford University during a period from
1977-1986. The language lends itself to and is intended to
be used as a tool for creating characters to be typeset
	with its companion language, TeX.

The talk will focus on some of the potential and possibilities
for using Metafont to aid in the design and creation of a
family of fonts. We will look at what Metafont can do and how
its capabilities can be applied to type design.

The speaker has been working with Metafont for 2 years, while
it was still under development and since it has been in its
"fixed state" as of January '86.
