[mod.computers.laser-printers] LaserJet emulating printers

david@varian.UUCP (09/05/86)

Has anyone had any experience with any of the new laser printers that
emulate the HP LaserJet and/or LaserJet Plus? How good is the emulation?
Have you encountered any problems?

The printer we're looking at is the ITT Qume LaserTEN Plus, which is
supposed to be equivalent to the HP LJ+, at a lower cost. It uses a
different engine (Hitachi I believe -- any experience with that?) with a
250 sheet tray. I've also seen press releases of other laser printers
that emulate the HP LJ.

we currently have a plain HP LJ, and rather than upgrade it to a LJ at
$1500, we'd rather purchase a second printer.

The applications that we are running are output from MicroSoft Windows
(mostly graphics), MicroGrafX Windows Draw (also graphics), Textware's
tplus troff postprocessor (mixture of text and graphics, and downloaded
fonts in the near future), and some locally written stuff for printing
ordinary text in various fonts and orientations. We use the B
cartridge.
