Marty, We at Texas A&M University are developing a DVI driver to the Xerox 9700, 8700, 9790, 8790 and 4050 printer family. This driver, called TeXrox, is written in C and currently in production under UTS and VAX/VMS. The driver also runs under VM/CMS using Lattice C although some speed problems are holding us back from putting it into production. An MVS port will be done within the next couple of weeks (using Lattice C) and CMS and MVS ports with Waterloo C are planned. We intend to distribute a package consisting of the driver and support utilities for converting GF, PK and PXL files into Xerox fonts, a utility to build TFM files from existing Xerox fonts, and any other needed utilities. Presently, the driver exists as does a utility for converting GF and PXL files to Xerox fonts and a utility for building TFM files from the the fonts Xerox licensed from Mergenthaler. Presently, the driver does not support \special's, but these will be included later this year. We are planning on making pre-release distributions to others within the next month or two. This will be done after TeXrox is ported to MVS. ---Tom Reid
