[mod.computers.laser-printers] Botchyness on Imagen

tgd@oregon-state.CSNET (Tom Dietterich) (03/16/87)

Has anyone else noticed the following problem? Got a solution?

We have an Imagen 8/300 and frequently we have a region about the
size of a nickel in the lower right-hand corner of the page (approximately
1.5inches from the bottom and from the right hand page edge) in which
the print is washed out, faint, or missing. Taking the toner cartridge
out and shaking it makes only a slight improvement. The severity of
the problem varies over time. When it is most severe, we see these
faint spots on 50% to 75% of the pages. We have tried all of the
obvious things: cleaning all of the internals, changing toner
cartridges, etc.

We know that the position of the splotch is determined by the
distance to the bottom of the page. For critical printing jobs
(camera-ready copy, etc.) we run legal size paper through the printer
and cut off the extra paper. This works great!
