Recently (a couple of days ago), I got rrn working on our apollo net, reading the news across ethernet from the spool machine (ulowell itself). Besides a couple of changes that needed to be made to the 'Config' file (ie: getting around the part that tries to do 'ar -t /usr/lib/libc > libc.list' and replacing libc.list with a file I made by hand (edited from one on another machine), everything seemed to go ok. Everything except for inews that is. The nntp software (I got it from the PD part of our 4.3BSD source) includes remote news reading/posting software to be used over ethernet between unix machines. Well, the reading (rrn) part works fine (a little slower than rn, but still usable), but I can't get inews to work. The inews that comes with it is not your typical inews, but a program designed to take an article and feed it over ethernet to inews on the remote machine (via nntpd daemon running on the remote machine). The local inews sends the article over the net, receives the status code ARTICLE RECEIVED (or something like that) and exits successfully. But, the article never shows uup on the remote machine (ulowell). (Note: I know it actually sent the article and got the status code, because I stepped through inews in the debugger). Has anybody had success getting the remote inews to work, or had similar problems with the regular inews (distributed with 2.10/2.11) that could help me? For now, I can feed the articles I'm posting to %rsh ulowell 'inews -h' < $tmpart but the article will wind up with the wrong 'From:' address on it. Thanks for any help...
