I know this has been hashed over before and please excuse the double posting, but I need some help. We just had one of our 750's upgraded to rev 7. Its configuration is as follows: 2 Megabytes of DEC memory, 1 Megabyte foreign memory Massbus 0 Unibus 0: UDA-50 disk controller attached to an RA-60 DZ-11 terminal controller DEUNA ethernet controller After the upgrade, diagnostics ran ok and both VMS 3.6 and VMS 4.0 booted and ran fine. But when we tried to boot 4.2BSD, this is what happened: >>>B %% loading ra(0,0)boot 0007092D 08 FFFFFFFE 15 >>> The console error code "08" means that an exception came thru a vector address ending in 2 and there was no UCS. To be more specific: a vector type 2 means "service this interrupt in user control store." The error code means that one of these types of interrupts happened when there was no user control store (or it wasn't loaded). Now we did this with the new microcode already loaded in (by booting the diagnostic supervisor first). I haven't tried it yet with the old microcode. Has anyone seen this problem before and know what to do about it? Naturally, the FS guy wants to blame Unix since the diagnostics and VMS all work fine. The microcode is another matter. Where can I get patches for /boot so that it will load the microcode in at boot time? I have heard that such a patch exists, and I was pointed at mod.sources as a place to get this patch but the moderator says he has never heard of such a thing. Our Field Rep wants to upgrade ALL our 750's, and (except for the one that just got upgraded) they ALL run 4.2 BSD. So this has suddenly become a VERY important issue for us.
