Rumor has it that SMG will be used for non-ANSI terminals with TPU "Real Soon Now". As has been mentioned before, the primary reason for not using SMG was for speed. In order to sell TPU to DEC management there had to be some real improvements, and efficiency became one of the primary goals. As far as speed is concerned, TPU starts up slower since it reads the entire file into an internal buffer before accepting editing commands. EDT uses a trick, and buffers only the part of the file that is necessary. When you start up EDT, it only has to buffer 24 lines of text. Marty Sasaki
