I have heard the following rumors. Take them at the value of all rumors! 1) uVax-3 may be released early. Its another one DEC's "when do we market the more powerful CPU" problems. The calim is that the uVax3 will be less powerful than an 8670 or 8680. No comment about what the 8670 and 8680 are. 2) DEC has been hiring all kinds of people experienced Gallium Arsinde integrated circuit design. For uVax-4?... 3) DEC has also supposedly been hiring expert system people to put an auto-tuning expert system together... 4) A potential new product has either a uVax-2 or 3 with an 8086 in the old Rainbow box. Priced for competition with the PC-AT. From the microfiche. While looking up a few things recently I noticed: Boot time memory check modules for the 11/790, 11/8SS and 11/8NN: - To run one to ground; a bug fix in the 11/790 code called it and 8600. This processor was also referred to as Venus. - 11/8SS is a BI bus machine. S = Scorpion? - 11/8NN is Nautilus also known as 8NNN. This processor has one memory controller but may take up to 8 memory arrays. Supported arrays include 4Mb, 8Mb, 16Mb and 32Mb. The 16Mb support was added after the 32Mb support. Memory arrays may be mixed ie 4Mb and 16Mb in the same system. Does anyone have all of the code names for the Vax processors?
