Does anyone out there know a fast way to check if a given string is the name of a DECnet host reachable to the local host? I don't consider the act of trying to open a connection to the host to be fast enough, though pterhaps this is as fast as is possible. I once found a file that appeared to be the DECnet host database, but its format was quite bizarre. Also, I have heard that some networks dynamically configure themselves so no file should be expected to contain this information. Replies to me, thanks. Peter -------
