I've got a 780 with an old memory controller, and 4 Mb of 16K memory (2 Mb DEC, 2 Mb NSC.) I want to go to 8 Mb, either by adding another old controller and more 16K memory (ugh), or swapping our controller and memory for 64K equivalents. DEC will do the swap for $46K. Can any of the 2nd source memory suppliers also do the controller swap? Do they take trade-ins?

I've got the same configuration as you (4 MB, 16K DRAM's), except all my memory is DEC. I, too, want to upgrade to 8MB. I got a price of approximately $20.5K from Nat. Semi. That was 256K chips with a new MS780E, card cage, backplane, and controller. They claim that all this is DEC stuff. Oh yeah, the $20.5K included a small credit for the trade-in.
