I heard from someone knowledgeable, that if you are unhappy about throughput on VMS4, you should check that you disks are mounted /NOHIGHWATER (if that's the name of the switch). I think that /NOHIGHWATER will only help if you are creating or extending files a lot. If you don't do a lot of that, it won't help much. Mike Iglesias University of California, Irvine
