Hello! Something that you may want to check out if you are still having performance problems with VMS 4.x is the SET VOLUME /ACCESSED= and SET VOLUME /WINDOWS= commands. I'm not sure exactly how much this actually has to do with the file system performance, but it is particularly disturbing to look at the default values for these parameters if you are running a bigger VAX with a lot of users. It does seem to make a difference here on the 8600. I usually do a command like this for my disks: $ set volume hsc000$dua0: /nohigh/access=32/window=64 Well I sort of took the defaults and multiplied them by 10! This seems to result in file system performance gain that gets you back where you were when you were running 3.7.
