[mod.computers.vax] Re. List-wide answers to simple questions

NEVILLE@UMASS-CS.CSNET ("Neville D. Newman") (01/19/86)

Why, may i ask, is it necessary to send answers to simple questions
(e.g. Doug Freyburger's problem sensing terminal speed) to the
list? Things that can looked up in a manual, that have been dealt
with on the list before, or are obviously of limited interest should
be answered via private mail. Isn't this proper net etiquette (sp?)
anyway? i didn't have VMS manuals handy, so i just sent Doug a
chunk of working code. i have in the past done exactly the same
thing i am complaining about, but i know i shouldn't have. The only
reason i can see for posting such replies to the list is if you
can't get a working mail path.
