We run 4.2 BSD on a Vax 750. Lately we have been experiencing an annoyingly large number of crashes due to a "machine check 2: cp tbuf par fault". Over the past 2 years, under both 4.1 and 4.2, we have had this same problem in episodes. For a few months, the machine runs just fine (up continuously for 3 months or so). Then it comes down with a sort of disease and crashes frequently. We are averaging about a crash and a half per day now. The obvious remedies, such as reseating boards and cleaning card edge fingers don't seem to help. I recall some discussion last year about this problem being common to the 750 under Unix, and about revised hardware and microcode that were variously rumored to make the problem either better or worse. Has anyone found the root cause of this problem, or at least a reasonably effective solution? Brad Yearwood Kontron Electronics {voder, pyramid, loral}!kontron!brad Mountain View, CA
