A group of us has been trying to figure out a good cast for a movie version of The Stainless Steel Rat (by Harry Harrison). We've cast James Garner in the title role, with possibly Harrison Ford as Inskipp. The biggest problem we're having is trying to find a gorgeous actress who is also talented to play Angelica/Angela/Angel... Any suggestions?

Any suggestions? Diana Rigg could do quite well in that role. Also Sigourney Weaver perhaps. -- From the spotlight of the center ring: Chuqles Von Rospach {amd,decwrl,fortune,hplabs,ihnp4}!nsc!chuqui nsc!chuqui@decwrl.ARPA And now... How about Sigourney Weaver as Angelina?
moriarty@fluke.UUCP (Jeff Meyer) (09/11/84)
Absolutely, Sigourney Weaver would be perfect as Angelica (she has that
homicidal look she can put on, as in GHOSTBUSTERS). Garner's getting a
little old... howsabout Daniel Hughes-Kelley, (last name may be wrong), who
does a nice job with a bad script as McCormick on HARDCASTLE & MCCORMICK?
Yes, I know, a relative unknown (at least he's not my relative [insert
raspberry here]).
And by the way:

Jane Seymour gets my vote as Angelina. She's got Beauty, Brains, and she can be pretty wicked when she wants to be. . .
scw@cepu.UUCP (09/27/84)
I vote for Fae Dunaway as Angelina. She also (as in Jane Seymore) has beauty,
brains, and can be quite evil (cf. \The {Three,Four} Musketeers/), in addition
she's a VERY good actress.

[to the best of my knowledge, there IS no bugeater] My vote is Sigourney Weaver for Angelica... Any ideas for James and Bolivar? (nukes to anyone who suggests the Dukes of Hazard)

I have noticed a recent resurgence of interest in Harry
Harrison's Stainless Steel Rat books; this is good to see, since
they have been (in my erstwhile opinion) underrated in the past.
In a recent conversation with the author the subject of
further SSR material came up; for anyone who's interested, here
it is.
Aside from the already published pentology (the titles of
which have been posted previously), Harry has been quite busy
with this character. Slippery Jim has his own pseudo-role-
playing-game, board game and comic book, though the board game
seems only to be available in England. Also restricted to
European publication is a Rat choose-your-own-adventure book --
says Harrison, "It came out fine, but I'll never do it again."
But the best news of all has to be the announcement of his
latest Rat novel, A Stainless Steel Rat is Born. Detailing
Degriz's early years, it includes info on how he started on his
life of crime and his infamous escape for the juvenile detention
center at age sixteen. I'm really looking forward to this one;
I don't know about you, but much as I liked the rest of the
series, nothing can hold a candle to the opening sequence in the
first novel when the Rat is still a criminal.
Enjoy.

If you like the Stainless Steel Rat you'll probably also enjoy
Harrison's Deathworld stories, which consist of three novels
and a short story, that I know of. The main character, Jason
DinAlt, is similar to Slippery Jim. I liked Deathworld III
best of the series.
