A system here at Harvard is still running version 3.7 and suddenly began having this problem: Almost exactly 5 hours after the system is booted accounting stops working. The accounting file is unwriteable. "set accounting/new" doesn't work, no new accounting file is created. In order to solve this problem, we did all sorts of things like copying over new versions of rms, jobctl, and even vms.exe. The system disk has been reformatted and compressed (an RP07). Does anyone have any ideas? ---------------- Marty Sasaki uucp: harvard!sasaki Harvard University Science Center arpa: sasaki@harvard.harvard.edu One Oxford Street phone: 617-495-1270 Cambridge, MA 02138

Temporary loss of system disk space can cause this problem. You should eliminate the possibility that an application (or even a malicious user with too large a disk quota for that volume) is eating all the disk space and then giving it back.
