Just a minor problem. We run KERMIT here both ways between our VMS
and TOPS-10 systems. If we connect from the VAX through our PACX to TOPS
and issue a BYE while TOPS KERMIT is in server mode, the following seems
to occur:
VAX TOPS
- issues BYE message
- KERMIT issues RUN UUO for LOGOUT
- KERMIT exits, the COM file
deallocates the line.
- LOGOUT send logout data to VMS
(this is 6-7 lines at our site)
- VMS sees the LOGOUT output
and prompts for USERNAME &
password several times.
- TOPS, once LOGOUT is complete,
sees the VMS prompts and echoes
them with a ? (huh? I don't
understand this commend.)
- VMS still thinks someone is
trying to login, until too
many tries occur.
- When VMS stops prompting, TOPS
goes quiet. 40 seconds later the
line hangs up.
(Sorry, that is how TOPS behaves. In this case it's a pain, but I've
often wished VMS were more like that (LOGOFF and want to login again without
reconnecting through the PACX). Of course, going the other way is no real
problem since after the LOGOUT summary on the VAX, the line is hung up.)
My question is, how do I get KERMIT outbound ports on the VAX to not
allow logins (ie not prompt for USER etc.)? (ie To just swallow the garbage
sent to it and ignore it.) Thanks a heap.
