There is now an "official" VMSINSTAL manual available from Digital. It is described in the V4.4 cover letter as follows: Optional Manual -- VMSINSTAL guide A new optional manual is available with the release of version 4.4. The _VAX/VMS_Developer's_Guide_to_VMSINSTAL_, order number AI-HB12A-TE, is intended for programmers who are designing installation procedures for programs that layer on the VAX/VMS operating system. The manual describes the VMSINSTAL command procedure and provides guidelines for designing installation procedures that conform to DIGITAL's recommended standards. Note that VAX/VMS optional documentation must be ordered separately -- it is not packaged with the documentation set. I hope this information will be helpful to anyone who would like "official" VMSINSTAL documentation. The manual should be orderable through Digital sales offices or, in the U.S., through DECdirect at 1-800-258-1710. Regards, Tom Blinn
