It feels to me like the "VAX" name is already becoming historical in a way, since the first vaxen were the VAX-11, or a glorified PDP11 processor and in compatibility mode could still run PDP11 code. So the eXtention was to add the virtual memory scheme, was it? But now that the new vaxes philosophically take this for granted, you can no longer truly refer to them as Vax-11s [which they don't], because most of the elevenish stuff has fallen by the wayside... _H* -------
