[mod.computers.vax] Suppressing <lf> echo from VMS query

Is there a terminal setting under VMS that suppresses the echo of the <lf>
after a <cr> is typed? I can't find anything in the manuals. I need the
terminal to have all the normal interactive capabilities.

We are trying to make a packet switched connection to our VMS system as
inexpensive and as useful as possible. We are using an external Gandalf
PAD into the X.25 network (Datapac). When people connect into our other
systems (Dec-10, Cybers) we have them turn off the echoing and suppress the
<lf> that is usually echoed after a <cr> is typed because their local PADs
will be doing this function for them. We would also like to do it on the
VAX. Sending out the LF means that on input every line gets double spaced,
because both the PAD and the VAX are doing it. We could ask the PAD not to
send its <lf> but that would not only break our other systems, but the user
would have to pay for an extra packet each line. Also, if he is typing at
any reasonable rate, the front few characters of each line gets overwritten
due to network delays in getting the <lf> out to his terminal.
