> Does anyone know when the Software Tools for VMS were last released > and the same for the Msg system? I don't know when the last official release date was, but I am in the process of testing a current distribution. This distribution requires VMS V4.0 or later. The Mail System includes nameserver support for ARPAnet and a BSMTP interface to Jnet V2.0 for BITnet. The distribution consists of DCL archives which should be executed in an empty directory. After executing DISTN.COM see the file README.1ST and after executing MSGSYS.COM see the file BUILD.DOC. It is available by Anonymous FTP from host Hamlet.Caltech.Edu. You should `get' the DCL archives: /st_src/../distn.com Software Tools kit. Required for msgsys.com /st_src/../msgsys.com Software Tools Mail System (and sources) /st_src/../src.com Software Tools system independent sources /st_src/../vms.com Software Tools VMS dependent sources I can also ship DISTN.COM and MSGSYS.COM over BITnet to other Jnet sites (/VMSDUMP). In this case you will receive DISTN.COM in 12 pieces which should all be "cracked" in the same directory before following the instructions in README.1ST. I would be interested in hearing of any problem anyone has in building the Tools from this distribution. The only pending problem appears to be a bug in V4.3 and earlier of VMS in which the End-Of-Deck sequence is ignored when it falls on a block boundry. This can cause the DCL archives to unpack incorrectly. It is fixed in V4.4. Kenneth Adelman Caltech Ken@Hamlet.Caltech.Edu Ken@Hamlet.Bitnet
