Dick Thomson has just heard of an internal Dec memo that states "Thou shall not use file transfer program on Decservers". I was going to put this on EAN put I thought that maybe you could contact your Dec communications people to verify this memo and get an official explanation. (Kermit is the file transfer protocol in question) Does anyone have any information on this? I have been using Kermit on a Decserver for some time without any problem. It is probably a good idea to disable all of the terminal servers switch characters and to disable broadcast messages, flow control and loss notification. This recommended in the terminal server User's Pocket Guide. I have also been running DECnet on Rainbows and IBM PC's on a Decserver without any problem. Dave Goodall Okanagan College 1000 K.L.O. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Dick Thomson has just heard of an internal Dec memo that states "Thou shall not use file transfer program on Decservers". I was going to put this on EAN put I thought that maybe you could contact your Dec communications people to verify this memo and get an official explanation. (Kermit is the file transfer protocol in question) John MacMillan ----------------------------------------------------------------- I have been using KERMIT between my Rainbow and an assortment of VAXen via a DECSA V2.1 with LAT V5.1 without any problems for quite some time. I keep the Rainbow set at 8N and 4800 baud with jump scrolling and have never seen any problems with any of the Kermit or recent LAT software versions. (Kermit actually changes the baudrate and parity parity settings.) Granted, I normally only transfer source code around via KERMIT between VMS(3.6, 4.1, 4.4) and Ultrix (1.1 and 1.2). VMS Kermit-32 V3.1.066 VMS Kermit-32 V3.2.076 CKermit 4c(057) MS-Kermit V2.27 I have macros for MS-kermit defined to set the Baud rate, parity, handshake, flow control, escape character and to define the backspace key (the one above return on the Rainbow keyboard) for each of the different systems I use (IBM 3081, Sperry 1100, DEC). Set handshake none, set flow control xon, are the significant ones for the VAX/Terminal server connections. I change the escape character because I also use the Kermit-32 to dial out to access various external systems which also run kermit. And if youv'e ever run nested kermits you understand why. In fact I never use the Rainbow terminal emulator but use MSKermit's VT100 emulator. It works fine. Even with Rainbow-Regis, for things like VAXSIM.
