Is it documented anywhere in the VMS manual set that users should be removed
from MAILUAF.DAT after they are removed from the system?

When a new user accesses VMS MAIL, an entry is created for him in
the MAILUAF.DAT file.  DEC has provided a convenient way for system
managers to access this file, a procedure called MAILUAF.COM in
SYS$EXAMPLES.  Recently, while scanning this file, I noticed several
obsolete entries.  That is, information about the mail files of users that
no longer have accounts on the system.  

I cannot find any place in the documentation set that suggests users
be removed from this file when removed from the system.  Is there some
reason for keeping them in there?  Does anyone out there do anything
special to maintain this file?
