I think the main problem is that there are a lot of sessions that it makes sense to go to only once. Eg, once you have gone to "Intro to TPU" or some such, it doesn't make any sense to go to the same session teyh next year. there need to be more sessions of a sort fo continuing nature - "last DECUS we talked about how to do X in TPU, this time we are gogint to talk about Y in TPU". After you have been to a couple of DECUSes, the main purpose tends to be the Q&A sessions (which are increasingly impossible for the VAX), the "Update for VMS/TOPS/ULTRIX version N", and to mingle with other aquaintances and DEC people who are there. DECUS is getting very expensive for usch things if it is not nearby. Finally, DECUS is too big, and it is hard to sort out mettings you want to go to. There are too many "intro to XXX for complete beginners", and too many people who need such sessions. Its like DECUS isn't sure whether it is supposed to be a Technical symposium, or a sort of giant training aid/showcase for DEC. BillW -------
