[net.sf-lovers] Chekov as propaganda

Did you ever notice how Chekov was a brilliant piece of anti-soviet propaganda?

He was a bright fellow, he had just been lied to about all those facts he knew.
This was a humorous way of pointing out that the USSR lies about EVERYTHING,
from the origin of quadrotriticaly to the origin of vodka. "It was inwented by
a little old lady outside of Leningrad." Quite pointed if you look past the
humor.

Unfortunately, it is the kind of face the USSR shows the world these days.

Gak!

How about this: Chekov was aware of his past, and was just having
fun with it. Or how about this: stereotypes are placed on all
ethnic origins, and the writers were just having fun with that.
Or, how about this, so soon after the semi-nazi days of
Joe MacArthey, the writers of ST took an amazingly bold step
forward to make the crew of the Enterprise an ethnic melting-pot
and were having fun with that?

How about keeping the anti-political-view crap to a minimum outside
of net.politics ?
