According to "digital review", July 21st edition, the VAXstar is a personal workstation packaged in a box about the size of a DECmate III. It is a restricted-configuration system consisting of a repackaged MicroVAX II CPU and a floating point accelerator. Uses a private bus, has optional graphics subsystem, RD31 20MB winchester and probably the new RX33 1.2MB floppy. VAXstar will have a 3-button mouse, ThinWire Ethernet connector, high res monitor and the DRAGON chip set used in the VAXstation II/GPX. Will most likely be limited to monochrome graphics. Because VMS will almost fill the 20MB disk, the VAXstar is referred to as "diskless." It's intended to access applications and data files over the soon-to-be-announced Network Interconnect (NI) that allows clusters of MicroVaxes. Cost estimated to be $7500 to $15000. $15000 presumably buys one the multiuser (4 users) version which is called TEAMmate. ----------Standard disclaimer. The above is paraphrased, perhaps incorrectly. Hope it helps. -------
