If all you need is an estimated CPU time for a QIO call, you may want to try this: Time the QIO call to NLA0:. The NL device is as simple a device as you can get. Virtually all the CPU time accumulated will be the overhead of the QIO mechanisms. Using this time against another device will help estimate the specific device driver overhead. David L.
