I have implemented a VMS bulletin board program, which is now available from the Australian National University. This program is used on this site for unix (usenet, aacsnet...) news which is fed into the local VMS systems, as well as functioning as a local bulletin board. The software supports multiple news groups (no limit), and maintains a per-user newsgroup registration file to keep track of unread news in selected newsgroups. The interface allows reading of news, posting replies to news items, extraction of news items to files and extraction and forwarding of items into VMS mail, and automatic inclusion of mailed items (mailed to the news administrator) into news. The system also supports a local DECNET network, where new items posted onto any node in the net will be fed to all other VMS news stites on the local decnet. The interface is either a prompt interface, or screen mode, where newsgroup and news item directories are displayed on the screen. The system supports a privileged news administrator, and can be modified to support protected newsgroups. The program is written in C, and sources will be supplied on the tape. (re- compilation is required to set the system up for local site names). As the sources are rather large (of the order of 3/4 Mb I am not posting sources to the net - If you want a copy send a tape to the address below with enough information to allow me to send it back (it will be written using BACKUP at 1600 or 6250).
